James Zhou, Registered Physiotherapist
White Rock, Surrey, North Delta
James’ Story – With a keen interest in physical activity, mechanics and fixing things, James inevitably gravitated towards a career in physiotherapy where he could combine all of the above into his daily life. Having come into close contact at an early age with the intense struggles of disability, pain and mental illness experienced by the people he volunteered and worked with, as well as lived with, he became committed to trying to relieve suffering in any way possible and growing to be a healer more so than a fixer. Empowering clients with the ability to heal themselves is a large part of his approach. James educates clients on how to be their own therapist in as many ways as possible and puts a strong emphasis on exercise therapy, drawing from his previous experience as a kinesiologist. He has worked in clinic and care home settings, the latter of which have become homes for him as well since he first walked into one as a volunteer. James is fluent in Mandarin and Gibberish (those who know, know).”
Education:
- Bachelor of Kinesiology, University of British Columbia – 2014
- Master of Physical Therapy, University of British Columbia – 2020
Certifications:

When James is not at work: James is usually playing basketball or learning about how stuff works. He also volunteers regularly coaching developmentally challenged youth basketball and, when feeling adventurous enough to stray farther out from under White Rock, will enjoy the occasional treat of hiking, snowboarding or mushroom hunting.
